FAQs - Frequently Asked Questions
-
How do you incorporate faith and culture into therapy?Every client’s connection to faith and culture is unique, and not everyone who comes to me is Muslim. Early in our work, we talk about how much, if at all, you want faith or cultural values to be part of your sessions. For some, weaving in Islamic teachings feels grounding and essential. For others, therapy feels most helpful when we focus on personal growth and emotional well-being without bringing in spiritual elements. Together, we find the balance that feels right for you so the work supports your needs, values, and comfort level.
-
Can therapists provide medication? No. Therapists, clinical social workers, psychologists and professional counselors cannot provide medication to help alleviate psychiatric symptoms. Only medical doctors (including psychiatrists), physician’s assistants and some types of nurses are able to prescribe medication. If there is a need for medication to supplement your therapy, then a plan of action can be discussed during the first therapy appointment.
-
I don't want anyone knowing I'm getting services. Is all my information confidential?Confidentially is a very important part of seeking treatment. By Federal Law (HIPAA) your information can not be disclosed to others without your permission unless there is an exceptional circumstance (like imminent harm to yourself). If a family member, employer or a friend were to call and try to obtain any information about your treatment he or she would be unable to do so.
